You have three options when it comes to translating for your business: you can hire a full time translator, work with an agency, or use a freelance translator. We’ll be looking at each of these options in detail.
Both an in-house and external translator do the same thing but they can provide different solutions depending on the situation. Many large companies will use them simultaneously. Freelance translators can be hired by companies, but they have the same disadvantages as running an in house translation department. If you don’t have someone within your organization who can, it will not always be possible for quality control.
Which are the reasons to choose a translation company?
In at least four cases, a translation agency might be your best option. Let’s look at each of these in turn.
You need translation and localization
A full-time translation professional will usually not have the knowledge or experience necessary to offer both of these services. Localization, as you may have read in our previous blog post is a more thorough process of translating the text. It addresses both the cultural and non-textual aspects as well as other linguistic issues. You will need a native speaker to localize the text, and one who is able to live in the target nation. If you are ordering marketing translations or business translations that need localisation, an agency is your best choice.
A LANGUAGE IS NOT ENOUGH
A translator normally works with only two languages – the source (native) and target (foreign) languages. Many times, the same text must be translated into multiple languages by companies. This is especially true when it comes to marketing materials like product information sheets. A translation agency would be a wise choice if product information sheets are required in multiple languages. This assignment is easy for translation agencies because they work in multiple languages. We have more than 25 language pairs to choose from, so you won’t find that one translator can do it all!
YOU WANT ONLY TO PAY FOR THE WORK THAT’S DONE
It is cheaper to use a translation agency. Only the translation costs are charged. You have the freedom to terminate or start a collaboration at any moment. There is no need for insurance or other non-wage costs. An in-house translation team will not be able to do this. A translation agency is a good choice if you’re looking for ways to save money on translations.
A LOT of MATERIALS NEED TO BE TRANSLATED IN A TIME-SHORT PERIOD
A single translator works with two hands, one head, and eight hours per day. The amount of work they can accomplish each day is therefore limited. A translation agency removes these limitations. Many translators are part of an agency, which means that large amounts of text can be translated quickly and with minimal quality loss.
When should you hire full-time translation services?
Some companies choose to hire full-time translators. Why? You can think of at least four reasons.
WANTED TO OFFER CUSTOMER SERVICES IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE
You should, for example, offer customers who are from overseas the possibility to speak to you in their native language if you have an ecommerce business. In this case, you might decide to hire someone who speaks the language and then train them in customer support. Another option is to hire a full time translator to support customer service. But that’s not a common solution.
EACH MONTH, YOUR STEADY AMOUNT OF EARNING WORK IS SET
If you order the same number of translations monthly, a full time translator may be essential. If this is the case, a monthly salary could be more economical than hiring a translator agency. You must also consider additional overheads such as insurance and furnishing the translator with a properly equipped workstation.
YOU WANT ALL YOUR DATA IN YOUR HOUSE
Today, nearly all professional translator agencies pay attention to data security issues. Your data is protected with us, even highly sensitive information. However, we understand that not all companies are as secure as others. Some may feel more comfortable knowing that their confidential and personal data is kept within their IT infrastructure. An in-house translator may be a better option if that is your view.
A TRANSLATOR THAT SPECIALIZES IN YOUR INDUSTRY IS ESSENTIALLY REQUIRED
Another thing to remember is that translation agencies work in many niches and industries, so you might be able locate an agency that is specialized in your field. It is best to hire a full-time specialist to work exclusively for your company if you want 100% assurance that they know your industry.
